The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) offered in Australia extends a temporary stay opportunity to international students who have recently finished their studies at an Australian educational institution. This visa enables them to acquire valuable work experience or enhance their eligibility for alternative visa pathways. Subclass 485 encompasses two distinct streams.

  • Age limit: 50 years and below
Graduate Work Stream

Graduate Work Stream

This stream is for international students who have completed a course that is closely related to an occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).

Post-Study Work Stream

This stream is for international students who have completed a bachelor’s degree, Master’s by coursework degree, Master’ by research degree, or Doctoral degree in Australia.

The visa duration depends on the highest qualification obtained:

  • Bachelor's degree: Up to 4 years
  • Master’s by coursework degree: Up to 4 years
  • Master’s by research degree: Up to 5 years
  • Doctoral degree: Up to 6 years

Eligibility Requirements

  • Recent completion of an eligible Australian qualification: You must have completed a degree or qualification from an Australian educational institution within the last six months.
  • Study duration: You must have studied in Australia for a minimum of two years for the Graduate Work Stream or a minimum of two years for the Post-Study Work Stream. Age limit: There is no specific age requirement for the Temporary Graduate Visa, but the age limit can vary depending on the stream you apply under.
  • English language proficiency: You may need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency, which can be demonstrated through various English language tests such as IELTS, PTE, etc.
  • Health and character requirements: You must meet health and character requirements as specified by the Australian government.
  • Valid visa: You must currently hold an eligible visa that allows you to apply for the Temporary Graduate Visa.
