NOTE : Balance-of-family test is a means to assess whether a parent or parents have a significant portion of children living in Australia. So, at least half of the parent’s children must be settled in australia. ‘Settled’ here means the child must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen who is usually resident in Australia. This can also be assessed if more of the parent’s children are settled in Australia than in any other single country.This means that Australia must have the highest number of children who are settled compared to any other country.

Contributory Parent Visa ( Subclass 143/173):

  • Is a Permanent visa for parents of Australian Citizens and PR holders. 
  • Two stages of Application : First, Sponsorship stage and Second Visa Application Stage. 
  • A contribution fee to be paid to the Australian Government. (Higher fee than Non-contributory)
  • The cost is about $48,365. 
  • Shorter application processing times. 
  • Subclass 143 is the Onshore permanent visa while the Subclass 173 is the Offshore temporary visa. The Subclass 173 holders can apply for Subclass 143 once in Australia. 

Eligibility Requirement

  • Applicant’s child must be an eligible Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • Applicants must meet health and character requirements.
  • Balance-of-Family test.
  • If you apply as a retiree then you need not meet the Balance-of-Family test, assurance of support and sponsorship.
  • Have assurance of support.
  • Meet the Health and Character requirements.
  • Balance-of-Family test.
  • Immigration history will be considered.

Non-Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 103)

The Non-Contributory Parent Visa is a permanent visa that allows parents to live in Australia with their child who is an eligible Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. 

  • The processing times for this visa can be much longer compared to the Contributory Parent Visa
  • This visa is available for offshore applicants.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT 

  • Applicant’s child must be an eligible Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • Meet certain character and health requirements.
  • Balance-of-Family test.

Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804)

The Aged Parent Visa is a permanent visa for parents who are old enough to be eligible for an Australian Age Pension. 

  • is permanent Stay and allows you to use Government Services.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT : 

  • Have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • Old enough to receive the age pension in Australia.
  • Meet the balance-of-family test.
  • Have assurance of support.
  • Pass a means test to be eligible. ( Means test is a financial assessment done to determine the individual/household’s eligibility for certain services, benefits or assistance programs. They are designed to promote fairness in distribution of benefits.)
  • Immigration history will be considered.

Contributory Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 864/884)

  • Similar to Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 143/173).
  • You can stay Permanently as a Permanent Resident.
  • Eligible to enroll in Australia's public health care scheme.
  • Subclass 864 is for Onshore applicants whereas the Subclass 884 is for Offshore applicants.
  • This means that after being granted the temporary Subclass 864 visa, you can later apply for the permanent Subclass 143 visa without leaving Australia.
  • After being granted the temporary Subclass 884 visa, you must apply for the permanent Subclass 864 visa from outside Australia.
  • Subclass 864 generally has a shorter application period but higher application fee compared to the Subclass 884.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT 

  • have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • be old enough to receive the age pension in Australia.
  • Meet the balance-of-family test.
  • Have assurance of support
  • Immigration history will be considered.

Remaining Relative Visa (Subclass 115/835)

The Remaining Relative Visa is a permanent visa for individuals who have no close family members other than their child living in Australia. It allows the applicant to join their child and live in Australia.

  • Allows you to stay in Australia as a Permanent Resident. - Access Australia's public healthcare scheme. Subclass 835 is for applicants inside of Australia (Onshore) when applying whereas Subclass 115 is for applicants outside of Australia (Offshore)at the time of application.
  • Note that both subclasses are Permanent.
  • Offshore applications may take longer processing times.
  • Neither Subclass 115 nor Subclass 835 visas require a substantial contribution fee as is  the case with certain other family reunion visas, like Contributory Parent visas.

Eligibility Requirement

  • Be a remaining relative of an eligible Australian citizen or Permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
  • Visas require that the applicant has no close family members (siblings, parents, or step-siblings/parents) living in Australia other than their child.
  • Immigration history will be considered.
  • You must be sponsored by an eligible parent or step-parent, sibling or step-sibling, or an eligible partner of your relative.
  • Meet the Health and Character requirements.
  • An assurance of support assures us that you will not have to rely on government assistance after you enter Australia on this visa. The assurance is for you and any family members who come to Australia with you on this visa.
  • Applicants cannot have a near relative who usually lives outside Australia or have a near relative with a temporary visa in Australia.

Aged Dependent Relative Visa (Subclass 114/838)

The Aged Dependent Relative Visa is a permanent visa for elderly dependent relatives of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens. It allows them to live in Australia with their family. 

  • Allows to stay in Australia as a Permanent Resident.
  • Subclass 838 is Onshore while the 114 is Offshore. Note that both subclasses are permanent.

Eligibility Requirement

  • Be outside Australia when you apply for this visa and when we decide your application.
  • Be sponsored by your relative or relative's partner.
  • To be eligible for this visa you must have no partner.
  • You must have been dependent on your relatives in Australia for basic needs like food, shelter and clothing for at least 3 years before you apply for the visa.
  • An assurance of support assures us that you will not have to rely on government assistance after you enter Australia on this visa. The assurance is for you and any family members who come to Australia with you on this visa.
  • Meet certain Health and Character requirements.
